I read this book in ‘staves’ released daily via The Pigeonhole. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Three years ago, Lelle’s daughter went missing in a remote part of Northern Sweden. Lelle has spent the intervening summers driving the Silver Road under the midnight sun, frantically searching for his lost daughter, for himself and for redemption.
Meanwhile, seventeen-year-old Meja arrives in town hoping for a fresh start. She is the same age as Lelle’s daughter was – a girl on the brink of adulthood. But for Meja, there are dangers to be found in this isolated place.
As autumn’s darkness slowly creeps in, Lelle and Meja’s lives are intertwined in ways, both haunting and tragic, that they could never have imagined.
Lelle is a broken man after his daughter went missing three years ago. Everyone else presumes she is dead but Lelle will not give hope and spends his nights driving up and down the Silver Road where she went missing vowing to leave no stone unturned in his quest to find her.
I felt so sorry for Lelle. It must be every parents worst nightmare for their child to go missing and not to know what happened to them. I had to admire Lelle’s determination not to give up searching for his daughter when everyone else seems to have accepted that she’s missing and presumed dead.
The story is told form two points of view, that of Lelle and a young girl named Meja. Both are broken in their own ways and it’s not apparent at first how these two narrators stories fit together.
The plot for me personally is one that has been done before but I still enjoyed the read. It was a little bit predictable but the author still managed to capture me with the beautiful scenery. I wouldn’t say this was a page turner but I still wanted to read to the end to find out how everything would turn out.
