No matter where you hide…

Kaitlyn Best is stuck in a rut. So when she discovers she’s pregnant after a one-night-stand with Alex, her school crush, she throws caution to the wind and accepts his offer to make a new life together in the depths of the Lake District, far from her home… and her demons.

He will find you.

But Alex is not what he seems. And when Kaitlyn’s world begins to crumble before her eyes, she realises she barely knows the man she has agreed to spend the rest of her life with.

Since Alex won’t tell her his secrets, Kaitlyn vows to find them out for herself. But when she uncovers the truth, she realises she has made a terrible mistake…

Following her 2017 bestselling psychological thriller ‘Those Who Lie’, Diane Jeffrey is back with another chilling story of domestic suspense, perfect for fans of BA Paris and Sandie Jones.

My Thoughts

This is a book I found myself drawn into very quickly. It quite literally had me hooked from the first chapter. Straight away in the beginning chapters you get this tense, un-easy feeling that all is not quite right with Alex. There is something lurking beneath his seemingly sweet and charming persona.

I loved that this book is set in the Lake District, particularly the Keswick area as I visit this area a few times a year. I could really picture and feel the isolation that Kaitlyn must have been feeling as many properties in the Lake District are tucked away in small villages and down long country roads. Many people might not have neighbours for miles around!

I felt like I was reading this book sat on the edge of my seat, nervous as anything for what might happen to Kaitlyn. Half of me was shouting at Kaitlyn to get out as quickly as she can and the other half of me was angry as anything with Alex for his manipulative ways.

I think the character development was brilliantly done. The way as a reader I followed Kaitlyn’s thought process as it starts to dawn on her that things aren’t as they should be. We see how first of all she starts by making excuses for Alex’s behaviour and blaming herself for some of his reactions, right the way through to the stark realisation that he has deep ingrained psychological issues.

I thought the authors writing in this book was mesmerising. I really felt the emotions of Kaitlyn and genuinely felt her pain, anxiety and terror. I think what endeared me to Kaitlyn so much is that she is just an average woman. She could be anyone; your mother, your sister, your best friend. It really got me thinking about what I would do in that situation or if I ever suspected someone I knew to be in that situation.

The subject of domestic abuse is always going to be a tough topic to write about. I think Diane handled it brilliantly and gives the reader a very emotionally filled book. This is the first book i’ve read from this author, but after reading ‘He Will Find You’ I can’t wait to get my hands on her other books. This is a gripping psychological thriller which I throughly recommend.

Please be aware, this book does revolve around physical and psychological domestic abuse. If this is a topic you are uncomfortable reading about then this is not a book for you.
